Babboe makes commitment to refund consumers with unsafe cargo bikes

Cargo bike manufacturer Babboe has made a commitment to the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) to actively offer consumers with cargo bikes suffering from possible safety issues the opportunity to ask their money back. Consumers that qualify for this refund can contact Babboe from late January. Customers that have not yet received a replacement bike are entitled to financial compensation. Babboe will now offer this opportunity following discussions with ACM.
Earlier this year, Babboe issued a recall for consumers that had cargo bikes suffering from a possible safety issue. At first, they were offered a voucher for a replacement bike as compensation. ACM subsequently received complaints from consumers who actually preferred to get their money back. The Dutch Consumers’ Association (in Dutch: Consumentenbond), too, was not satisfied with the way in which Babboe dealt with the situation, and asked ACM to look into the matter.
Following discussions with ACM, Babboe decided to expand the recall by actively offering an additional option. In addition to a replacement bike, consumers can now also opt for getting their money back. The exact amount of the refund depends on how old the bike in question is. Babboe will start actively offering this option to consumers from late January. Babboe will provide ACM with status reports about this recall.
Warranty
Under consumer protection law, you are entitled to a safe product. If your product is unsafe, you are entitled to repairs or a replacement. If that is not possible, or if it takes too long, you can rescind the contract. You will then be entitled to a refund.
