Who are considered energy market participants?
Energy market participants are businesses that trade on the wholesale market for electricity, natural gas, and liquefied natural gas (LNG). They buy or sell energy for delivery or storage in the European Union (EU) or they transport energy in the EU.
These are, for example:
- Energy producers
- Energy suppliers
- System operators
- Energy traders
- Providers of an exchange or platform for energy transactions
- Large-scale users with a capacity of at least 600 Gigawatt per hour (GWh) per year
Additional European rules such as REMIT (in Dutch) and the European regulations concerning electricity (in Dutch) apply to energy market participants.
